Interview with author Christine Pope

I’m kicking off my new weekly author interview series with Christine Pope today.  She writes in several genre categories including paranormal romance, fantasy romance, and SF romance with thirty-two books out so far between them.  Her series include The Witches of Cleopatra Hill (PNR), The Djinn Wars (PNR), The Sedona Files (PNR), Tales of the Latter Kingdoms (fantasy romance), and the Gaian Consortium Series (SFR).

Her latest release, which you can find out more at the bottom of this post, is titled Forsaken (The Djinn Wars).  It’s the fifth book in the series, but it is a standalone love story as well.  For those who would like to start at the beginning of the series, the first novel Chosen is free to download on the retailers.

Christine has been kind enough to answer a few questions for me, which you can read below, and there’s a giveaway opportunity in this post as well!

What is the longest you’ve ever stayed awake? Why?

It must have been a little more than 36 hours…I went to see Return of the Jedi up in Hollywood with some friends on opening night, and because of people cutting the line in front of us (I’m still ticked about that, LOL), we got pushed farther back in line and didn’t make it into the midnight showing. So we saw it at 3 a.m. and staggered out onto Hollywood Boulevard at around six-thirty in the morning. We went out to breakfast after that and eventually made it home to suburbia, but I was so wired that I couldn’t really nap. I did crash around nine that night, though.

What is your current country of residence? Have you visited other countries?

I live in the United States. I’ve visited France, Canada, and Mexico.

What is your beverage of choice when you first wake up? What happens if you can’t get it?

Plain iced tea, no sugar. Even in the dead of winter. If I can’t get it, I can be a little cranky, but not as bad as my husband if he doesn’t have his coffee.

Do you have pets? If so, what kind and do they help you write your books?

I have a dog. She’s a rescue, half Pomerania and half Keeshond. A lot of the time she does hang out with me in my office when I’m writing, but she’s defected this summer because it’s cooler being in my husband’s office.

Bea

Name a few of the TV shows you like to watch.

The Walking Dead, Z-Nation, Longmire, Person of Interest, The Daily Show.

What would be your weapon of choice if society crumbled and it was each man/woman for themself?

I’d want a sword, like Mishone from The Walking Dead. Of course, I’d also want her arms. 😛  Swords are good because you never have to worry about running out of ammo.

What would be your ideal writing retreat?

A cabin in the mountains above Santa Fe, with trees all around (especially aspens…I love aspens) and a stream running somewhere on the property. No internet, so I’d really have to focus! But it would still be close enough that I could drive down the mountain at the end of the day and have dinner in one of our fabulous restaurants here.

Thanks so much, Christine, for visiting today.  You have such a cute dog and I love your idea of a writing retreat!

More than a year ago, a djinn-created plague nearly wiped out all of humanity…

Ever since, Madison Reynolds has been hiding. Leaving her underground sanctuary means risking her life at the hands of vengeful elementals hellbent on killing off the world’s few remaining survivors. But when her curiosity and need for exploration get the best of her, she crosses paths with Qadim al-Syan, the new steward of Albuquerque. Despite her better judgment — and her fear of the djinn — she finds herself drawn into his orbit. She knows she must resist her ever-growing attraction for this otherworldly being, who’s unlike any man she’s ever met. But the pull just might be too great. Will succumbing to her desire mark her for certain death?
