Interview with Debra Dunbar

I’ve got Debra Dunbar here with me today to answer a few questions about herself.  She’s an urban fantasy author who has published sixteen novels so far for two series- The Imp Series, which has 8 books currently, plus 3 stand-alone Imp World novels, and 2 books in a spin-off series. She also has The Templar Series which currently has 3 novels.

For today, we’ll focus on her latest release, Exodus, which is the newest novel in her Imp Series. At the end of this post, you’ll find more details about that and links to where you can pick it up.  There is also a giveaway opportunity, so you don’t want to miss that.

Now on to the interview!

*****

Do you have pets?  If so, what kind and do they help you write your books?

I have two hellhounds…errr, Bloodhounds.  Bones and Buckwheat (the puppy). They’re not very helpful when it comes to writing due to the lack keyboarding skills. I’m trying to teach them to fetch coffee, but that doesn’t seem to be working out too well.

If someone was willing to pay you a million dollars cash to run down the street naked, would you do it?

Can I walk? Because as any woman over the age of twelve can tell you, running naked involves an uncomfortable amount of jiggle.

Name a few of the TV shows you like to watch.

I don’t get to watch a lot of TV because of my writing schedule.  Well, that and the fact that I have two sons ages ten and seven. Most of my television tends to be Adventure Time, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Scooby Doo re-runs.  I DVR Outlander, Walking Dead, and Supernatural but the few times I get the TV to myself, I tend to binge watch Criminal Minds.

What would be your weapon of choice if society crumbled and it was each man/woman for themself?

A backhoe. Or maybe a combine. I could run over zombies or bad-guys from the comfort of an air-conditioned cab with surround-sound stereo.  Because killing requires a background soundtrack, you know.

What is the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?

That’s a tough one because I eat pretty much whatever I’m served with the caveat that I don’t want to know what it is beforehand.  Sometimes I don’t know what it was afterwards either.  Hmm, chicken hearts and gizzards when I was in Beijing? Escargot? Canned Chicken a la King?
No – probably guts from steamed Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs. They call it ‘mustard’ because it’s yellow.  And I’m not a fan. Love the crabs, hate the ‘mustard’.

Name a mystical creature you wish you could have as a pet.

A Pegasus.  I horseback ride, but I suck at it. I think I spend more time on the ground looking up at my pony than I do on his back.  Even with the risks inherent in falling from 1000 feet in the air as opposed to 6 feet up, I’d still go for it.  Maybe I could duct-tape myself to him?

*****************

So glad you could stop by and visit today, Debra.  I’m sure you could walk, rather than run, down the street if you wanted.  Also, I’d love to have a pegasus as a pet, too!  It would make getting around during rush hour traffic a lot easier.

AUTHOR BIO

Headshot 5After majoring in English with a concentration in Medieval Literature and Folklore studies, Debra promptly sold out to the corporate world, occasionally writing marketing copy and op/ed articles for a local city paper. By day, she designs compensation programs, after dark she stuffs her nose into obscure mythology, and feverishly writes her novels.

Debra lives in a little house in the woods with her three sons, and a Noah’s ark of four legged family members. She drives a gigantic diesel SUV, couldn’t carry a tune if you duct taped it to her back, and enjoys an occasional cosmopolitan (heavy on the vodka). On a good day, she jogs and horseback rides, hopefully managing to keep the horse between herself and the ground. Her only known super power is ‘Identify Roadkill’.

  1. I loved the new book and how once again an imp and Angel of Chaos saved the day. With a Dragon even! This is by far one of my favourite series of books. Humor and the humbling of angels along with a great set of characters from the most unique backgrounds. Keep up the great writing.

  2. Debra – Great series, I am really glad it didn’t end with Angel of Chaos. Sam is one of my favorite characters.

Susan – Great idea with the interviews, I hope everyone meets a few new authors to explore.

Both – Any chance of a collaboration? I, for one, would to love to see Sam’s hijinks plaguing Gerbasi … watching the expression on Gerbasi’s face when Gregory stops him from torturing Sam would be priceless … lol.

    • Thanks – glad you’re enjoying the series!
Susan and I did play around with the idea of a collaboration at one time, but our worlds have some differences, and both of our writing schedules are pretty full at the moment.

    • Glad you are enjoying the interview series, Larry.

As Debra mentioned, we did play around with a collaboration once. It involved Sam and Melena meeting in a bar and I believe I brought Kerbasi into it (though I’d have to go back to the file and look to be sure). We only went back and forth adding to the story for one day before we got caught up with other things. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to find time for working on joint projects. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

  3. I love the dogs, and I would run for a million jiggling thrown in for free SHOW ME THE MONEY!! GREAT authors even have my hubby hooked on this series!!
