April update

First of all, thank you to everyone who has picked up a copy of Darkness Wanes.  I’ve appreciated all the wonderful feedback I’ve received via email and Facebook messages.  If you’d consider leaving a review on Amazon or whichever retailer you use, I’d greatly appreciate it.

The paperback should be out within two weeks for those interested.  I’m getting it formatted now.  Many people have asked about the audiobook and my publisher has set it to release on June 21st.  Sorry it can’t be sooner, but hopefully the time will pass quickly!

As for Dancing with Flames (book 2 of the Dragon’s Breath series), I have begun working hard on it.  I’d done some of the preliminary work last year after finishing the first novel, but now I’m getting deep into the writing.  One thing I’m enjoying is that with the apocalypse and basic world-building tasks are out of the way, I can focus more on the characters and plot threads with this installment.  There will be some recap of events from the first book, but mostly I’ll be pushing the story forward.

Yesterday, I spent some time on research I needed for the novel, going to visit a couple of sources for various information (don’t want to spoil anything).  It’s amazing how many people are patient with me when I ask crazy questions related to the series and that they’re willing to help.  I also walked through the location for one of the battle scenes and took a bunch of pictures I’ll refer to later.  There was a skateboard park nearby.  The guys there were giving me strange looks because I had to pass by them along my way while snapping photos (in another direction), but I ignored them.  Unfortunately, their colorful ramps couldn’t figure into my story due to their location.  This particular battle scene is already written, but my first drafts are bare bones with little description so I needed to get the proper lay of the land for when I do my revisions.

I know a lot of people want a hard date for when the novel will be out.  Believe me, I wish I could give it to you, but after all the delays with Darkness Wanes I’m a little nervous to do that just yet until I reach a certain point in the book.  Nothing bothers me more than letting you guys down when I miss a target date.  At the very least, we’re looking at two months from now.  That is doable, barring any unforeseen circumstances.  It’s spring, though, so keep your fingers crossed that Oklahoma doesn’t get another spat of tornadoes to distract me.  Speaking of which, there are storms forecast for the next couple of days so I should probably get off here and get some writing done while the weather is still calm.

Thanks again for all the support you’ve given me and for your patience.  I’ll post another update later in the month.

September publishing updates and a giveaway

First of all, thanks to everyone who has read/reviewed Stalked by Flames.  I’m pleased to announce it made it into the top 100 most read titles on Kindle Unlimited for the month of August with both Amazon U.S. and U.K.  It did far better than I imagined.  I must admit I was a little nervous about how people would react to me combining dragons, the modern world, and an apocalypse, but I absolutely felt the story in my head had to be written down.  The overwhelming positive response for the novel was amazing and very encouraging.  I’ll look forward to giving you more books in the series next year!

Truly, thanks to everyone who picked up a copy.  In appreciation of that I will be doing a few giveaways over the next couple of weeks with the first one starting today (see below for details).  I’ve also got several updates for you all including audio, paperbacks, official Darkness Wanes release date, and a giveaway.

STALKED BY FLAMES AUDIO

The audio version of Stalked by Flames just released last Thursday (September 24th).  As I mentioned on Facebook a while back, the Dragon’s Breath series is being narrated by Marguerite Gavin.  She has done a fantastic job with the first book and I love the voices she gave the characters.  If you enjoy audio at all you should check it out.  Here are some links for you:

DARKNESS WANES RELEASE DATE

The official release date for Darkness Wanes is November 18th.  I’d hoped to get it out by the end of October, but with the delay on Stalked by Flames and other personal issues there was no way I could get it finished and edited in less than three months.  I know there are some speedy authors out there, but for me I need a little more time to write full-length novels.  Every author has to work at their own speed.  Thanks for your patience.  I will be revealing the cover and summary around mid-October.  Be on the lookout for that.  I’ll also post the first couple of chapters by early November so you can get a sneak peek!

GIVEAWAY!!!

Three paperback copies of Stalked by Flames are up for grabs, along with bookmarks to go with them.  All you have to do is comment on this post no later than midnight (U.S. Pacific time) on November 2nd.  After that, I’ll randomly select three winners (who will get replies on this post if they won).  Be sure to put a valid email address in the appropriate field so that I can contact you for shipping details.  If you are reading this on Goodreads, please come to my website to comment.  This is open to international contestants.

The next big giveaway will be next week!  (Yes, if you enter this one you can still enter the others whether you win or not)

Charity Drive, Audio, and other updates

I meant to have an update post sooner, but I had a family emergency come up over the weekend.  My brother was in a car crash last Friday and ended up being flown by helicopter to the hospital because of a head injury he received in the collision.  At first they feared they’d have to operate, but thankfully the bleeding in his brain stopped and they transferred him over to the ICU where they monitored him for a couple of days.

It was a scary experience seeing my younger brother lying there on a ventilator.  The hospital where they took him is nearly an hour from my home so I spent as much time as I could with him until he was out of danger.  Thankfully, he’s been released now and is recuperating.  If anyone messaged me in recent days I apologize for not getting back to you sooner, but I am trying to catch up.

Memorial Day charity drive

For those who read my previous post or caught my mention on Facebook, I participated in a charity drive for veteran charities late last month.  From May 22nd to the 29th any sales I received on Darkness Haunts (all formats), would go to the Wounded Warrior Project.  I didn’t meet my goal of $500, but did raise $302.54 between ebook and paperback sales.  For audio, I’m traditionally published and can’t get the numbers for a while so I kicked up the total amount to cover that.  Today I sent $400 to the Wounded Warrior Project as my donation from the fundraiser.  Thanks to everyone who either bought a copy or helped spread the word.  I really appreciate it.

April updates and sale on Darkness Haunts

For those who don’t subscribe to my newsletter and missed it this morning I wanted to give a few updates.  The first is that Darkness Haunts is currently on sale for only 99 cents through to tomorrow night (April 2nd) on all the major retailers.  If you know anyone who might be interested in trying the series out, this is a great time to get the first book at a discount since I’m not sure if/when I’ll drop the price again.  You can find the purchase links for it here.

In other news…

One of the questions I’ve been asked a lot lately is when the Darkness Shatters paperback will be out.  I’m waiting on the hard copy proof to look over, but I expect to approve it and have it ready for sale within the next two weeks.  Some of you are also waiting on the audio version of Darkness Shatters.  My publisher has set the release date for June 3rd of this year and the CD version is already up for pre-order.  They usually don’t have the digital version on pre-order until 2-3 weeks before the release, but I’ll put out another reminder close to then for those who need it.

As far as my publishing schedule on upcoming books go, I’m writing a novel now for an all-new series with the first book releasing in late June.  It’s an idea that hit me about a year ago and has been bugging me ever since.  I’ve worked on it in bits and pieces over the past months, but forced myself to wait until after publishing Darkness Shatters before putting my full attention on it.  This one falls within the dark fantasy genre, but has totally different races/creatures than the Sensor Series.  Most of my current readers should find it appealing.  Yes, I’m leaving the details vague but I’ll reveal the cover and summary in about a month so you can find out more then.

For Darkness Wanes, book six of the Sensor Series, I expect to have it out in October of this year.  That will wrap up the story arc for the main series, but I’ll go on to write spin-offs for some of the side characters and explore more on how *spoiler alert* the world has changed with supernaturals coming out in the open.  There will be at least two of those novels (one featuring Cori as the main character and another featuring Micah) and possibly a third if the demand for Kerbasi to get his own novel keeps up.  After that, I may do a book seven with Melena and Lucas where I actually keep them together for the plot (try not to be too shocked).  Yes, I hear the complaints but keep in mind this is an urban fantasy series, not a paranormal romance so the focus has been different.  Book seven would be to please the PNR lovers.

That’s it for now, but feel free to ask questions below if you have any.
