May 2017 updates

I’ve got a ton of updates for you all regarding free books, audio, and other stuff.  Things have been a bit hectic for me lately, so I didn’t get a chance to mention some of them sooner, but to make up for that I’ll do a giveaway at the end of this post.

First off, Darkness Haunts (book 1 of the Sensor Series) is currently free on Amazon, B&N, Kobo, and iTunes.  This is the first time I’ve ever dropped the price that low since I released it over four years ago.  If any of you haven’t tried this series yet, this is your chance to check it out.  The price will be going back up to $3.99 in about a week so be sure to grab it while you can.  It is whispersynced for the audio listeners out there, too.

Speaking of which, Darkness Taunts (book 2 of the Sensor Series) is finally whispersynced as well for anyone who might have skipped grabbing the audio of that one (I’ve heard some people didn’t get it for that reason).

Next up is Stalked by Flames.  While all of the Dragon’s Breath books are exclusive to Amazon for the moment, and in the Kindle Unlimited program for people to borrow, the first book in the series is also available to Amazon Prime readers for free.  This will only last for a few more weeks, so pick up your copy of Stalked by Flames if you haven’t already.  And yes, it is whispersynced for the audio listeners who might want to grab that as well.

Also, those waiting on Christmas with Dragons to be in audio don’t have much longer to wait.  It should be available by the end of May.  The narrator and sound engineers are wrapping up production on it now.

In case some of you were holding out on picking up Destined for Shadows until it was in Kindle Unlimited, it is in the program now.  I’ll keep it there for the time being, but the next installment in the Dark Destiny Series, Destined for Dreams, will be wide on all the retailers for a short period before it goes into KU.  The release for that will likely be in late June of this year.

Destined for Shadows is also now available in paperback for those who are interested.  I don’t have news for audio yet, but I’ll let you know as soon as I do.  There will likely be a separate post about what is going on with that.

Now for the giveaway!  One lucky individual will win a paperback copy of Destined for Shadows, a tote bag, and a fridge magnet.  All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below (with a valid email address in the appropriate field) and tell me which of my books you have liked the best so far.

This giveaway will run until midnight (CDT) on Sunday, May 7th, 2017.  One random person will be chosen as the winner.  I will respond to them in the comments section below and send them an email to get their mailing information.  This is open to international contestants.

Merry Christmas and a giveaway opportunity

For those who celebrate, I hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas.  I spent time with family last night and ate a huge meal.  Today, I’ve got more relatives to visit, but I wanted to let you all know about a giveaway opportunity I currently have running over on my Facebook fan group this week.

It is for a huge prize package which includes a signed paperback copy of one of the first three Dragon’s Breath Series books (winner’s choice), a tote bag, fridge magnet, and hand-carved pewter dragon figurine.  All you have to do is join my Facebook group HERE, and comment on the giveaway post after reading the instructions.  The contest ends on New Year’s Eve, and the winner will be announced the following day.

In other news, I’ll be doing a post later in the week recapping the year and letting you know what to expect from me for 2017.  Those of you who are subscribed to my newsletter would have gotten most of the updates when I sent it out yesterday, but for everyone else, this will give you a thorough update on which books I’ll be releasing next and an approximate time frame on when they should become available.  Be sure to check back!

Updates on the Dragon’s Breath Series (now on all major retailers)

I’ve got a few updates for you all on the Dragon’s Breath Series.  First, it is no longer in KU (Kindle Unlimited), and I’ve just uploaded books 1 & 2 onto the other retailers (Nook, Kobo, and iTunes).  For those wondering, I don’t have any plans to put it back in KU in the near future.  If you are one of the individuals who has been waiting for the novels to be available outside of Amazon, you will find purchase links to the first book (Stalked by Flames) below.  Thanks for being so patient on this.

Next, I’m on the later stages of edits for Forged by Flames, but it is taking a little longer than expected to finish.  This is mostly because I’ve stretched myself a bit thin trying to get too many things done around the same time.  I’ve also had edits with the Kerbasi holiday story, cover and promo design stuff, forming the Facebook fan group, handling various correspondence from my publishers (I’ve got a French book release on the 28th and Dancing with Flames just came out in audio last week), and the list goes on.  It’s been more than a little hectic.

Having said that, I am getting close to finished.  If there’s a delay in publishing book 3, it probably won’t be more than a day or two.  This is just to give me some breathing room to make certain the novel looks good before I publish it for the masses. I will post another update sometime on Wednesday, and should I not be able to release it on the 27th, I will at least put up the first few chapters to read here on the blog so you can get started.  The actual book release would follow within a couple of days after that.

In addition to everything else, I am also participating in a Halloween Facebook party with a bunch of other UF authors.  While it starts on November 26th, my day for posting contests with prizes isn’t until the 30th (must have Forged by Flames ready before then!).

I have got some tote bags with the newest book cover on them, a pewter dragon figurine, and other awesome things I’ll be giving out.  Don’t miss your chance to possibly win some of these prizes and join the party.  Here’s the link:

And that’s all for now.  I’m off to get some more work done!

Interview with Erin Zarro

Erin Zarro is here with us to answer a few questions about herself.  She’s a fantasy, sci-fi, and horror author who has written the Fey Touched series that has two novels out so far.  Today we’ll be focusing on the newest installment, Grave Touched, which you can learn more about at the end of this post.  Also, be sure to check out the giveaway she is offering.

Now on to the interview!

What is your beverage of choice when you first wake up?  What happens if you can’t get it?

Diet Pepsi. I’m a zombie in a bad mood without it.

Do you have pets?  If so, what kind and do they help you write your books?

I have one, a black cat named Hailey, who hubby and I believe is part vampire. She typically doesn’t help me with my books. The Queen does not concern herself with the needs of the peasants. 😉

If someone was willing to pay you a million dollars cash to run down the street naked, would you do it?

Absolutely! I wouldn’t call myself the bravest person in the world, but for a million dollars, I could get brave!

What genres of books do you like to read?

I’m all over the genre map: paranormal romance, sci-fi, science fantasy, fantasy, and horror, YA of any kind. Sometimes thrillers too.

Name a few of the TV shows you like to watch.

Bones, Game of Thrones, Outlander, and General Hospital (don’t laugh – I’ve watched it since I was a kid.) Kind of a strange mix, huh?

Name a mystical creature you wish you could have as a pet.

A unicorn. When I was a child, I was obsessed with them. Even now that I’ve grown up, I have quite the collection of unicorn figurines. They inspire me. 🙂

What would be your ideal writing retreat?

Somewhere on the lake, quiet, in nature. Maybe a log cabin. Far away from the city. I like to get away from everything, including the internet (don’t hit me). And I’ve always been more inspired near water. It soothes me.

Thanks for stopping by to visit today, Erin.  I’m with you on the ideal writing retreat.  Lakes, cabins, and water are the perfect setting for creativity!

Erin Zarro is an indie novelist and poet living in Michigan. She’s married to her Prince Charming, and she has a feline child named Hailey who she’s convinced is part vampire. She loves all things scary and spooky, and is on a mission to scare herself, as nothing lately has scared her. She writes in the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. Her first published novel, Fey Touched, is a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, as is Book 2, Grave Touched. She is currently working on Book 3, Ever Touched, and is trying to stay out of trouble. Mostly.

Interview with Debra Dunbar

I’ve got Debra Dunbar here with me today to answer a few questions about herself.  She’s an urban fantasy author who has published sixteen novels so far for two series- The Imp Series, which has 8 books currently, plus 3 stand-alone Imp World novels, and 2 books in a spin-off series. She also has The Templar Series which currently has 3 novels.

For today, we’ll focus on her latest release, Exodus, which is the newest novel in her Imp Series. At the end of this post, you’ll find more details about that and links to where you can pick it up.  There is also a giveaway opportunity, so you don’t want to miss that.

Now on to the interview!

Do you have pets?  If so, what kind and do they help you write your books?

I have two hellhounds…errr, Bloodhounds.  Bones and Buckwheat (the puppy). They’re not very helpful when it comes to writing due to the lack keyboarding skills. I’m trying to teach them to fetch coffee, but that doesn’t seem to be working out too well.

Bones 3 Buckwheat3

If someone was willing to pay you a million dollars cash to run down the street naked, would you do it?

Can I walk? Because as any woman over the age of twelve can tell you, running naked involves an uncomfortable amount of jiggle.

Name a few of the TV shows you like to watch.

I don’t get to watch a lot of TV because of my writing schedule.  Well, that and the fact that I have two sons ages ten and seven. Most of my television tends to be Adventure Time, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Scooby Doo re-runs.  I DVR Outlander, Walking Dead, and Supernatural but the few times I get the TV to myself, I tend to binge watch Criminal Minds.

What would be your weapon of choice if society crumbled and it was each man/woman for themself?

A backhoe. Or maybe a combine. I could run over zombies or bad-guys from the comfort of an air-conditioned cab with surround-sound stereo.  Because killing requires a background soundtrack, you know.

What is the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?

That’s a tough one because I eat pretty much whatever I’m served with the caveat that I don’t want to know what it is beforehand.  Sometimes I don’t know what it was afterwards either.  Hmm, chicken hearts and gizzards when I was in Beijing? Escargot? Canned Chicken a la King?
No – probably guts from steamed Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs. They call it ‘mustard’ because it’s yellow.  And I’m not a fan. Love the crabs, hate the ‘mustard’.

Name a mystical creature you wish you could have as a pet.

A Pegasus.  I horseback ride, but I suck at it. I think I spend more time on the ground looking up at my pony than I do on his back.  Even with the risks inherent in falling from 1000 feet in the air as opposed to 6 feet up, I’d still go for it.  Maybe I could duct-tape myself to him?

So glad you could stop by and visit today, Debra.  I’m sure you could walk, rather than run, down the street if you wanted.  Also, I’d love to have a pegasus as a pet, too!  It would make getting around during rush hour traffic a lot easier.

Headshot 5After majoring in English with a concentration in Medieval Literature and Folklore studies, Debra promptly sold out to the corporate world, occasionally writing marketing copy and op/ed articles for a local city paper. By day, she designs compensation programs, after dark she stuffs her nose into obscure mythology, and feverishly writes her novels.

Debra lives in a little house in the woods with her three sons, and a Noah’s ark of four legged family members. She drives a gigantic diesel SUV, couldn’t carry a tune if you duct taped it to her back, and enjoys an occasional cosmopolitan (heavy on the vodka). On a good day, she jogs and horseback rides, hopefully managing to keep the horse between herself and the ground. Her only known super power is ‘Identify Roadkill’.
