Destined for Shadows ebook release!

I am happy to announce that Destined for Shadows is now available.  This is the first novel in the Dark Destiny Series, which features two of the side characters from the Sensor books.  Cori and Bartol both have dark and disturbing pasts that haunt them, but they are explosive when they’re together.  Follow their journey as they learn to overcome their obstacles and maybe eventually find love (this is a slow burn romance).  I have decided to give them three books, so there’s plenty more to come from them this year.  You can also expect to see many of your favorite characters from the Sensor Series to find out how they’re doing.

Check out all the details below, including the summary and retailer links. Hope you enjoy!

Life is too short—except when it’s not.

Cori might be human, but her problems are wholly supernatural. A man from her past has come to Fairbanks, Alaska seeking revenge, and he’s become something else…something stronger. Staying one step ahead of him is going to be like dancing with death while encircled in flames. She’s got a sexy new neighbor who might be able to help with the problem, but only if he’d come out of his cabin once in a while.

Bartol is a half-angel who just spent one hundred years confined in Purgatory. The experience has left him scarred inside and out with no desire to interact with the outside world. He wants nothing more than peace and solitude—if only his new neighbor Cori would allow it. She is one woman who knows how to get under his skin and make him want more. The trouble? Unlike him, she can die, and it’s going to be soon if he doesn’t break from his isolation and intervene.

Interview with J.T. Bock

Author J.T. Bock is here with us to answer a few questions about herself.  She’s a sci-fi and paranormal romance writer who has two novels and a short story out so far in her UltraSecurity Series.  Today, we’ll be focusing on her newest novel, Dama X.  You can find out more about it at the end of this post.  She’s also got a giveaway you don’t want to miss!

Now, on to the interview.

What is the longest you’ve ever stayed awake?  Why?

I stayed awake for nearly 30 hours for my day job—and never want to do it again. I was designing graphics and the document layout for a government proposal. It was due the next day at 11 am to the federal offices in downtown DC. My client used the previous day and night and that morning to tweak and rewrite and redesign the proposal because one of the big bosses hated what the team had written. I was slaphappy as I drove home in morning rush hour traffic—and I’m not even sure how I made the drive back. They did win the government contract so that was a plus for me nearly losing my mind. LOL!

What is your beverage of choice when you first wake up?  What happens if you can’t get it?

I am incredibly thirsty when I wake up and not for just tap water. I want icy cold, Artic-like water that makes my teeth hurt. Load my glass with ice then fill that baby up! If I can’t get it, then I go back to bed because the universe has it out for me that day … just kidding … I whine to my husband who tells me to suck it up. No more sympathy after 20 years of marriage.

Do you have pets?  If so, what kind and do they help you write your books?

I have a rescue dog named Woody. He’s my writing sidekick. He sleeps under my desk when I write and will snuggle me when I’m stressing about a certain scene or plotline (Photo 1). He’s a good listener and only interrupts when it’s dinner or treat time—a perfect gentleman. 😉 Plus, he helped me celebrate my recent book release! (Photo 2)

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Trying to challenge myself, I’ve taken the advice of Eleanor Roosevelt, “Do one thing everyday that frightens you.” Recently, while in Belize, I went on an ATV excursion. I’d never driven or rode on an ATV and Belize’s safety measures are less than stringent. They didn’t provide helmets and allowed us to wear just swim trunks and tank tops. My steering’s alignment was way off. If I held the handles straight, I ran off the trail and into a tree, which I did three times. Orientation was here’s the break and gas—good luck!

About 12 of us formed a line behind the guide who led us along dirt trails. Well, it was supposed to be dirt trails. This was after the rainy season so we drove through trails that had turned to muddy streams several feet deep. I couldn’t see the large rocks, which could tip me over if I hit them at the wrong angle, and knock me into the orange-brown sludge and possibly give me mud-like superpowers, but I wasn’t taking the chance. After I ran into a tree the third time—seriously, my steering was way off and apparently, you’re not supposed to gun the engine, which would’ve been nice had they kept that tidbit in orientation—the guide offered to drive me. I refused because I was going to make it on my own. I did finish the course, and didn’t end up in a mud bath or injuring any more trees.

Name a few of the TV shows you like to watch.

My favorite series are centered on supernatural and fantasy. I love The Walking Dead and The Game Thrones. The storylines keep me guessing, and the character development and arcs are satisfying and realistic—although a few times I’ve cursed the writers (i.e., The Red Wedding). Netflix series, Daredevil and Jessica Jones, have hooked me as well. The writers and actors have portrayed these super humans with depth and complexity. They feel real because they are flawed and are on journeys of self-discovery as we all are even if our journeys don’t involve super strength or super hearing. 😉

What would be your ideal writing retreat?

A cabin in the mountains shared with my critique partners where we can write all day and then go for hikes to de-stress before writing into the evening as we share a bottle of wine and plot scenes together.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

I love hiking. We live in Northern Virginia and there are hundreds of trails nearby. Less than two hours away is Shenandoah National Park where you can find challenging trails leading to peaceful waterfalls and even have black bears walk across your path. It’s a great way to exercise and be inspired by nature and reset your creativity. My favorite local hike is the Billy Goat Trail at the Great Falls Park in Potomac, Maryland. It’s filled with moderate-to-challenging trails and rock scrambles that lead to breathtaking views of the Mather Gorge and Potomac River.

Thanks so much for being here today, J.T.!  Some people might not think driving an ATV can be that dangerous, but while I was in the military I lost count of how many times we had soldier deaths related to ATV crashes (during their off duty time).  If you’re not careful, bad things can definitely happen.

When J.T. Bock was a child, she wanted to be James Bond or Indiana Jones or a vampire hunter or Wonder Woman. Whatever brought her the most action, adventure and romance while play acting on her stage—otherwise known as her grandmother’s basement. Now J.T. has assembled her own team of action heroes, supernatural creatures and maniacal villains and set them on adventures far from her basement to exotic lands and alternate dimensions.

From a secret location outside of Washington, DC, J.T. conjures these pulse-pounding tales to share with those kindred readers looking for an exciting escape. Her alternate identity enjoys spending time with her workaholic husband and their sidekick rescue dog, traveling to interesting locales (San Diego Comic-Con), and enjoying life to the fullest with an amazing group of family and friends and a good glass of wine.

J.T. Bock is giving away ebook copies of A Surefire Way (Book 1) and Dama X (Book 2), plus a $10 Amazon gift card to one lucky winner.  Be sure to leave a comment below for your chance to win.  The contest will run to Tuesday, October 4th.  A winner will be chosen and contacted shortly after that.

Dama X is the second book about genetically modified humans who work for UltraSecurity, a niché security firm which solves crimes committed by other modified humans. Each story focuses on the misadventures of a different agent with loads of cool weapons, super powers, and a little romance at the end.

Here’s the lowdown on Dama X:

After Surefire’s case, UltraAgent Oracle takes time off from using her mind reading abilities—until a horrific transhuman crime forces her back on the job at UltraSecurity. At the same time, an old promise forces UltraAgent Pax to confront a new villain on the scene—Dama X, a Mexican cartel leader with a gender-bending way of dispatching her enemies.

As those close to them become victims, their cases entangle, and Oracle hides an uncontrolled power surge from her boss, Pax—her ex-boyfriend and the one man she secretly loves. If he learns about her unstable power, Pax will remove her from the most important case of her life, even if it means he may die.

Super powers, romance, demi-gods, and unexpected twists follow UltraAgents Oracle and Pax as they travel to Mexico to solve a case that defies explanation.

Darkness Clashes is now available!

Darkness Clashes coverThanks to everyone for their patience.  I’m happy to let you all know Darkness Clashes is now available on all retailer sites (Amazon/B&N/iTunes/Kobo).  You can find links to them at the bottom of this post.  My apologies to everyone who has been waiting and thanks for all the lovely emails.  I’ll be responding to them today.

I’ve also chosen four random winners from those who participated in the giveaway (see this post).  They can expect an email from me letting them know they’ve won.  Everyone else who participated will be receiving bookmarks soon if they’ve provided me with a mailing address.

What to expect:

Though this isn’t my longest book, it does have some complicated plot threads that required a greater balancing act than previous novels to make them as seamless as possible.  Character motivations are much more murky with no easy sides to take.  Melena will have a lot of tough choices.  It is also set at a faster pace and over a shorter period than what I usually do for my books.  I hope you enjoy the ride!

Playing with Darkness is now available!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.  I’m happy to let you all know that Playing with Darkness, book 3.5 of the Sensor Series,  has now been uploaded to all the retailers.  As of now Amazon and Barnes & Noble customers can grab their copies.  Hopefully Kobo and iTunes will follow soon.  For those of you who requested the novella ahead of time, I have sent out PDF copies to your emails.  If you haven’t heard from me and you were supposed to, please do let me know.

This story came to just over 16k words.  Much shorter than my other books, but I hope it helps tide you all over until Darkness Clashes releases.  There is some fun with Kerbasi and for those who need a bit of Lucas and Melena time, there’s some of that in there, too.  Hope you all enjoy it!

Playing with DarknessSUMMARY:

There’s no avoiding it. Melena must keep her promise to return the fae device that opens the portal to Purgatory. Except there’s one problem—Kerbasi. How can she go when she has one of heaven’s minions practically attached to her hip? One who will strike fear in the hearts of the fae the moment they realize who he is.

When her shape-shifter cat suddenly gets sick, she can’t delay the trip any longer. Only the fae can help get Sable healthy again. And if Kerbasi tries to cause any trouble while they are there, she’ll just have to find creative ways to keep him in line.
